Has anyone had any experiences with the marinas in LISBON.
Also, what is the average amount for third party insurance, my boat is only worth about 12,000 euros

Stayed at the one at the top of a commercial basin in 2005. Had a fabulous time as right in the middle of the city. Train station just outside with old fashioned tram stop. Cannot remember how expensive, so probaly wasn't. A highlight of our trip

There's a string of them on the left as you go in, but those downstream of the 70m bridge are full with long term berths. With a small boat <10m, you can sometimes find a berth in Doca de Ste Amaro, but don't bet on it. This is also the centre of Lisbon night life - early bed is not an option here.

Doca de Alcantara is your next best bet, entrance about half a mile further up river. If that's full (not usual) then there are more small craft docks about a mile further up. Sorry, names escape me.

If all else fails, base yourself on Cascais, about 6 nm W of the tagus river entrance, and take a bus into town!

Or anchor for free in Seixal, which is lovely, and has excellent cheap restaurants, a few miles south in the rio, and use the ferry to get in and out.

When I was there about three years ago, all the marinas were run by one authority, and hence were all the same price. There were four marinas. The one furthest up river was closed due to being silted up. The two that are close to the centre of Lisbon are crowded and VERY noisy. Cascais was not crowded and only noisy on weekends. There is a train station within walking distance of Cascais marina and a huge supermarket.

Seixal

The current is quite strong (3Knts?) at springs.

Don't anchor in the main channel before the first entry buoy to the Tagus yacht centre (as shown in the RCC pilot), because you'll be in the way of quite large craft going up, the stream is strong, and the holding a bit suspect.

With shallow draft, anchor opposite the church at the start of the channel running South along the shore - excellent holding, and out of the stream and traffic.

With deep draft, anchor West of the first buoy leading to Tagus. Holding reported ok.

Was there in a 45Knt blow. We were fine inshore opposite church. Yacht West of first buoy also fine. Yachts in main channel swirled around and dragged slightly.

We passed through in July 2004; stayed at Doca de Alcantara (I think; it was the one first one, about 1/2M past the huge bridge) it was about 1/2 the price of Cascais, not particularly full, very secure both from weather and the local criminal element (be VERY careful of pick-pockets on the busses) very friendly/helpful staff. I don't remember the showers at all, so I presume they were 'average'. It was far enough from the city centre to be quiet, but well serviced by busses and trams. I do remember that decent shopping was a bus ride rather than walking distance away. If you get there, make time to visit the maritime museum - its a corker.

When we were there in 2001 we berthed in the Doca de Alcantara. The inner 1/3 was a marina with no room for us but there were pontoons in the rest of the dock that were free, i.e. no one seemed to know who owned them. There were a few commercial boats in there but the rest were passing through like us. I presume someone has now got round to charging for the berths?

We stayed at Alcantra Marina this summer for three nights whilst we toured Lisbon and Estoril.Plenty of space,near to town (bus or metro),showers good,security excellent.Good travel back to uk.
