linseed oil

Having recently applied linseed oil to the teak gunnel on my boat, the excess oil ran down the gel coat of the hull. Having not cleaned it off immediately, I am now having bother trying to remove it from the hull. Any suggestions on removing the oil would be appreciated. Many thanks.

You could try Acetone, used for degreasing in the GRP laying up of moulds. Use some protection to your hands as it will remove the oil from there as well!!

Try white spirit, less agressive than acetone, or even antifouling thinners number 3...may take the shine off your topsides...alternatively use some compound on a bit of rag, the problem with this is that the area you do will look clean and shiny against the rest of the hull and you will end up doing the whole lot

We used Tcut, after I slopped Deks Olje everywhere, and then let it dry. It worked very well, but was quite hard work.

I wouldn't use Acetone. Acetone softens the gel-coat, and is used in glass-fibre primers to provide a paint key.

In large quantities I believe you can "melt" glass fibre.

I was given to understand that nail varnish and nail varnish removers based on acetone should be kept well away from plastic boats!
