Although I have been boatless for four years the urge to get another one comes back in varying strengths.I think what is holding me back is the pre and post sailing bits and the long winter and general cost involved…..look I have nearly talked mysef out of the idea……..for today??
 
You could buy a fixer upper and get it lifted onto your ‘meadow’..
Think of it : morning birdsong, electric coffee maker , cockpit with a view , if it rains , nip home pdq . Unroll the jib if you need a bit of sunshade for the cockpit siesta…
And no launching hassles /marina/insurance/antifouling fees nor commuting ..???

Get the missus to chuck a bucket or two of cool water over you ( which would then drain down and water the meadow…)

it’s tricky balancing the logic with the emotion isn’t it?

Am I missing something ???
 
It is interesting hearing this while being on the opposite side... I keep questioning myself if I really want to carry on with boat ownership ( I do ?) and all the costs involved, especially while I am about to bring out another thousand this week for a few maintenance jobs... but at the same time I can't imagine not having a boat I can go to when I need to... there is something she keeps giving back in a way nobody and nothing else does... I keep talking myself into the idea quite effectively it seems ?

My brother in law has a bit of land in Brittany with a static caravan. He did just this to make a spare bedroom

Seems like a very sensible appraisal. Boat ownership makes absolutely no sense to anyone other than boat owners.

I googled it to try and find out - got a couple of pages on how and why to do the opposite. Do you think my computer's trying to tell me something?

£80 for a chinaspacher and one less thing is holding you back.
 
So instead of talking oneself out of it every single day ..after day after day …
Why not buy a boat, ( reclining optional) and have a salutary , brilliant or terrible time , sell it, move on.

Edit: I meant relining not reclining.. but I’ve found that reclining is quite nice in the cabin after a jolly sail ( with or without new headlinings)
 
I realy should see a shrink.. I have a little ply cruiser being gently finished in the shed and a grp 20ft cruiser to sort next to the barn. Then there is the 13ft Tinny and the Coleman canoe lurking out back. Plus the nice ply faering sitting on it's trailer, ready to go. Just not very often recently... work etc..
