Another consideration,is that, although the engine can be readily overhauled, that still leaves the raw water cooled, TMP gearbox to worry about. Even though all the parts are available, they are very expensive and the box is complex to work on.

Quite so. I went through exactly the same dilemma with our 4.108/TMP combination a couple of years ago. The gearbox concerns were the deciding factor and I ended up replacing the lot with a Vetus M4.45. No regrets yet. Fingers crossed!

I have a brand new ZF 12M gearbox that matches that Perk nicely if you are interested .... superfluous to requirements now.

perkins 6 cyl diesel leaking in fresh water pump

Just purchased a trawler that is showing quite a bit of diesel coming out of freshwater inlet. I noticed diesel on hosing to the pump as well. Any ideas?
