On the boat I use the gas ring to seal ripe ends, at home I have a mains rope cutter &
Material cutter. If I'm laid up I usually bring the rope cutter from home.

The other option is to whip it. You can always melt it later. But other than a dinghy, everyone has a lighter.

I find a small 120 V inverter pretty much obligatory for anything other than day sailing. In fact, my current F-24 is the first boat I have had without an inverter, if just for chargers. Even my Stiletto 27, 40 years ago. But that was before USB (my F-24 does have USB).

If talking rope ends ... another trick :

Insulating tape round end, best is Self Amalgamating ... then dribble Superglue into end ..
