Light trailer dolly launcher

the mechanics (leverage ) of that look very interesting, and will give you greater directional control over the boat on its trolley. I suspect that as you will not be putting anything like the effort into lifting the boat, there will be more available to push or pull.

A bit like a F1 racing car trolley :)

My self built launching trolley has a similar arrangement. I built it originally to launch a 3m Orkney dory. Two of us could do so even with the outboard on which made it around 165kg all up. It was however a bit of a challenge at low tide! We now use it to launch / retreive a 3m RIB and can do this single handed even fully loaded with gear and a 10hp two stroke.

Hi

Just toying with ideas, would this be suitable for launching a boat on a slipway?! I don't have a towbar but thought if I had a 14ft boat in a marina would it be light enough to launch and pull out with this trolley? Just don't know how heavy a bigger boat would be.

This would only be suitable for a 2m rib, I've watched people even struggle with those on this type of trolly. They're designed for launching a small 2 or 3 person rib across a beach. A small 14 ft boat has got to be a couple of hundred kilos. An 18 ft Shetland F4 without an engine weighs 500 kilos unladen. Hope this info helps.

mic if you are thinking of keeping a boat on hard standing then launching a proper trailor will be needed if you are looking at the 14` size ,to give you an idea and a warning of what to look out for i had a dell quay dory 13`6 great boat mega stable but heavy..stated hull weight was around 260kg without fittings/engine ...most of these cathederal hull boats that are older in years have water ingress[mainly from cracks in deck floor] that soaks into the foam filling and they weigh a ton literally ...even a 14` rowwing boat type in grp is gonna 150 kg pluss prob a lot more and little launching trolleys just aint big or man enough .
So reckon you have to either
Stick with your current boat and live with the humping on and off the car roofrack
Take a hit if needed get shot and find a light Ally boat that will be easier to get on /off launch
Bite the bullet towbar/trailor and get a bigger boat...cant see point of expense/hassle of trailoring if you dont have one
with more room for fishing/taking mate out to
Get pally with someone with river frontage and let them use your boat when they want in return for free mooring there
good luck with that one.....hope you get something sorted.
Did you get out for a cruise round the weir pool ? Steve

All good advice. I'm sure the little boat will be fine for my needs and it's not too bad lifting onto the roof.

Ended up at work so never took the boat out, tuesday is next chance I'll have so might try if it's not raining

you may as well spend the money on a towbar as it will save your back and the boat can be in and out the water in a minute or so.by the time you have assembled the trolley and stored it etc its eaten into your weekends pleasure.
