Light-sensitive motorised flagpole

Back now from Sof France, having at last reached the limit of what they will allow us to have on this new boat, as per title.

That's the point. The spec is vague, but when we asked for pop-up cleats, fishfinder, B&O cd systems, central vacuum cleaning system, they said yes. This is actually unnerving becos I didn't know their limit is, but now, I do. No, we can't have an electric flagpole. Good idea though? They do exist. , tho praps not light-sensitive, a little motor turns the pole and then gentley retracts.

Re:strange speccing game.....

I'd give em hell. Ask for a steakfinder and a foisgrasfinder instead. Both forward looking. And insist the flag on your manual (ugh..) pole is hand woven silk. And the flag pole itself must be stainless steel and tapered.

Actually, this vague spec thing seems odd. I mean they presumably agree to a fixed price right? Then it's up to you to ask for central vacuum, or not, depending on whether you remember? Just seems funny way to run a business, from their point of view. What if you forget something because it's so basic that you assume it came with the boat, then they don't provide it becuz you didn't ask. Like bogroll holders, windscreen wipers, or a hull. I mean, do they give you a base spec to work from?

Pop up cleats are a great idea. Hydraulic, controlled from dash, if poss. What nav electronics did u decide?

Re:strange speccing game.....

I agree that it wouyld be better with a very very detailed specof everything on the standard boat. Although of course, I wouldn't read it.

Yes, there's is a basic spec, which runs to spare genny, anchor wash, and loads of other stuff. I suppose it's like in a restaurant where there's a menu. In Macdonalds, that's that. Higher up, they can vary things a bit. Higher up still and they'll make anything "off-menu", like this.

Spose at the topmost level they'll move the walls and sack that waiter over there, yes him, altho we aren't there. That would be when you devise the entire spec. But here we have a base spec, and it's up to us to dream up the unnecessary nitwit other ideas.

If you don't have everything spec'd in writing, how do you have any comeback if you don't get what you expected? Or will you write three letters to MBY in protest?

Re: speccing

I am gettting a lot of stick abt those letters so bettr not return to that. Worst of all the whisky per letter started the month afterwards.

Anyway. With this boat, they have fired all the accountants, charge a bucket of money and then we all have fun speccing the boat.

Here's the spec, they say, but tell us what you really want. can I have a nice wooden floor in the saloon, so I don't have much hoovering and clag in carpets. Oh what a good idea they say, and teak steps up then, and carpets in cabins, and a nice overcarpet in saloon if it's cold? Er yes. And we understand that you are a bit in computers so what abt if we put a portable over here with an internet satcom on a slidy out table thing? um yes that wd be nice, umm can I have a leather dashboard cos then it won't get whacked and scraped too much and I can just wipe it down? Yes, but it will not be easy to have it electircally raising and lowering, which we can do at no cost but is not on the spec, so what else wd you like? Umm a fishfinder, and an icemaker, and a genny and a watermaker and a umm spare prop and one of those B&O cd things, an anchor wash and music to the forward deck. Yes they're standard, how about an internally-illuminated handrail up from the saloon to the cockpit? Er alright and I'd like the sofa to be leather in this wild colour here, of which I have tiny sample. Right we'll get that made specially, now for cutlery and crockery you can choose 72 crstal glasses, you choose anything from harrods tell us the codes and well fit it. Well wot if the cutlery is silver? That's fine but you will need to clean it. Cripes.

This is all true, almost verbatim. In the design room I noticed a nice sort of candle thing and they just gave it to us as a present. And it gets sorted by faxes, but since they're driving it along, i feel ok that its not sworn and stamped.

Re: speccing

As long as you feel OK about the speccing and the way it's being done, I guess that's fine. When do you take delivery? And when can I come and drool?

Given important posts elsewhere, should it not have an automatic barf bag dispenser complete with built in upwind/downwind indicator?

Re: automatic?

I wonder what would trigger release of barf bag? Anyway, I thought we were doing it over the side?

Possibly a barf indicator though, this being a little plan of boat interfaced to apparent wind direction indicator and LED showing where to stand. I daren't actually ask for this, though.

Re: Leopard 23

Not a boat I've come across, but it sounds jolly nice!!

Where is it built, and where is it going to be kept?
