Hi All,

I'm looking for a new (second hand) outboard for my Sonata, to replace a Mariner 3.3, which was a great engine but only had a forward gear.

Can anyone recommend a light weight outboard around 4-5hp that has reverse please? Budget £400-£500. Ideally I'd like an engine with a remote fuel tank.

Thanks in advance.

Blimey!!

The silence is deafening!!
Actually I think you may have a problem, hence the response.
AFAIK the 4/5/6HP mariner/ mercury /tohatsu 2 strokes were as light as any. Unfortunately they are in great demand as the comparable 4 strokes are a lot heavier at 25kg.
Good Luck

I had a 4/5Hp long shaft saildrive Tohatsu on my First 18 which I could lift on and off without much trouble, I wouldn't want it on a tender though. That was £650 four years ago so for your budget it'll be second hand if you can find one.

I put 4/5Hp as I bought the 4 Hp and had the restrictor removed to convert it to the 5Hp, it's the same basic motor.
