Has anyone managed to work out how to lift the floorboard in the forecabin of a Griffon Mk1.

I can't see any screws (like in the main cabin).

Need to clean the bilge after diesel leak...

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Philip,

I posted this on there first actually, but have had no response.

I did hae a dig areound, but could not find anything relavent.

It you can send me a link to a particular post hat you are aware of that would be great.

Thanks,

Andrew

If you just need to clean under there, maybe a small inspection hatch would do. That's what we have, made by a former owner by using a hole saw to cut about at 2 1/2" section of the floorboard. This normally sits in place but can be prized out to get access to the space. I can just squeeze a small sponge through to mop out the space.

I reckon I could clean that space by sploshing water and detergent in under the toilet pedestal, then stirring round and sucking out via the little hatch, finishing with the sponge.

That must have been quite a Diesel leak to get all the way to the forecabin!

Hi Tony,
Thanks for that...
It was in fact 3 diesel leaks!!!
2 from the primary filter then 1 from the tap on the tank after I changes for a new filter assembly.
Then the boat sitting in the yard slightly bows down!!!
I now have a shiny new engine, tap and all new fuel lines fitted by an expert (rather than me!!!).
Anyway my question is how far forward from the cabin door is the hatch?
I don't want to drill into anything important underneath.
Regards,

Andrew

On ours, its just a few inches forward of the doorway, and near to the heads doorway, ie not central in that bit of floorboard. Unfortunately I won't be at the boat till next weekend, or I'd measure. Ours is a Mk.I as well so should be pretty similar. If you like I could meaure, and also see if I can have a little grope around near the hole to see if there are reinforcements nearby that you'd want to keep clear of.

What sort of engine did you fit? I assume you had an MD7A that died of old age.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for the info..

Some measurements and mobile phone photo would be really helpful... This is not a job I want to mess up.

New engine is a Beta 20. 3 bladed prop and rotates the other way to the MD7A. So close quarters manoeuvring is taking a bit of re learning.
Sold the old engine to someone in Cyprus for 170 quid!

Regards,

Andrew

Will do. Meanwhile, how about one of those oil-absorbing socks? Tie a cord onto it, and stuff it down under the toilet plinth and from there under the floor.

Many thanks in advance for the measurements.

I have used nappies to get most of it out (we have a 2 year old so have a ready supply..). I just want to get my hand in noow to have a good wipe around.

See picture of the inspection "hole" about ours looking aft. The blue mat is in the heads compartment.

The screws through the floor screw into thin timber underneath as a stop for the plug to sit on. If I was doing it, I'd use something a bit less conspicuous and maybe something more elegant to lift the plug out.

The hatch is just over an inch into the floor from sills both for/aft and to the side putting it close to the centreline. I had a little grope around through the hatch and it doesn't feel like there's any reinforcing members nearby. Hope this helps.
