We have an old style Tinker Traveler and a 43ft (13m) centre-cockpit ketch with a swimming platform at the back. We don't have davits.
Anyone got any recommendations on how we could rig up a hoist to lift the dinghy out the water at night? It doesn't have to come on deck (too much hassle to do on a daily basis), just a foot or two off the water.
Using halyards off main and mizzen seems the obvious choice, lifting it up the side of the boat. Alas we have a rubbing strake with protruding screws making it a puncture potential solution. Even if we could get round that problem surely having it on the side of the boat isn't ideal when the wind picks up. I suppose it could be tied to the shrouds.
Ideas/pics appreciated.
