Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum and seek your advice!

I am good at servicing my boat's outboard engine but need to anti-foul the boat soon. First of all, when is the best time to anti-foul? before winter or just before the summer season (boating season I mean!) starts?

Secondly; where can I lift the boat and put it temporarily somewhere (in a boatyard) so I can anti-foul it? or where is the best place who can do the both? (it has to be below teddington lock and in tidal part as the boat is moored there already).

and finally; how much does it usually cost? it is an 18ft long boat; GRP.

Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't bother anti-fouling it until you next plan to use it regularly, because if you do it will only get slimy over Winter!

Wouldn't it be cheaper to borrow a trailer and hoik it out rather than go to the expense of a lift-out? you might be able to park it in the garden over Winter to give the Hull a drying out too!

That will cost you $ can you not dry it out somewhere and antifoul between tides?

You could ask at Swan Island just downstream from Teddington. They might slip you and let you have a day or two ashore.
No need to stay below Teddington. That nice man at Teddington Lock will sell you a visitors licence and there are several small yards up stream - particularly near Hampton Court. Doesn't need craning out either - small enough to be slipped.
Maybe some nice forumite with a trailer would pull you out for some beer tokens?

Mind you, When I had a boat that small I used to let it dry out against a wall or pile and do it myself between tides. (Always remember the mad panic to replace a skin fitting below the water that proved a damn sight more difficult than I had envisaged :( )

Whatever, let the winter months while away with creative thoughts and a solution will pop up in the spring.

I know someone who will rent you a trailer for about £25 a week (guessing the price) which will easily take your boat. Indeed it would take a 26' Freeman. You could then have the boat out and take it home to do at leisure.

Lifting on the Tidal Thames

Hi there - the Hurlingham Yacht Club in Putney has a dry dock and very competitive prices. Their office tel no is: 020 8788 5547. It's a working boat yard, so there's not always someone at the end of the phone, but leave a message and they should call back.

Or PM me & I'll get someone to call you.

Vandy,I told you to come to the Hurlingham club, we have a slip that gives you
about 8 hours out of the water as well as the dry dock. We also have club trailers and a yard,
all available to members for coppers. Hope move went ok.

I was thinking of drying it out and do it between tides, but the boat itself is not light and it has a massive 70hp engine which increases the weight so I can't easily lift it manually and even if I do, then I am worried that I can't roll it back when the tide comes up!

I may consider moving it to another mooring soon, currently it is moored near Kew where there is no facility of lifting/ or simple boatyard services. I may move it to Putney or near Richmond as some of your have already suggested.

The big issue is time....! not sure if it is a good idea to own a boat when you are just 28 and busy working...!
