I've been quoted what i think is a lot of dosh for a lift out, scrub, anti-foul (one coat) and anodes (anodes alone supply and fit is circa £290.00). I have a 42 foot Sealine.
what should i expect to pay?
Thanks

Perhaps i should clarify; I had the boat anti-fouled and new anodes fitted in July 09. I was thinking of a lift and scrub prior to the new season, i was going to wait until March. However, the boat has to come out of the water next week for something else so i thought why not get it scrubbed, fit new anodes and a single coat of anti-foul wilst she's already out. I've been quoted 750.00+ VAT (thats not including the lift out) I think that's expensive. what do you guys think?

Hi

Well I just totalled up what I have paid, I am at MDL Mercury so got a lift out at Hamble point (MDL run boatyard & I get 50% off lift out charge) & my boat is rather shorter than yours at 27ft

Lift Out/Jet wash & relaunch £138
2 tins 2.5ltrs International Interspeed ultra (£60x2 after a lot of looking) £120
MG Duff main anode £40
Plastimo Trim Tab anodes (£9.95 each) £20
Trim Tab bellows £35 (rip off!)
Vetus Bowthruster anode £24

...so that's £377... with me doing all the hard graft and so far 3 trips down to Hamble to do the work, one more trip will finish it off, Oh and that is 2 coats of antifoul.... but at 42 footer will probably take about 4ltrs for one coat anyway!

...so my initial feel was £750+vat was a lot, but after tallying up what I have spent...it starts to make some sense......

I too have a 42' Sealine and have just 'done' mine....and £290 seems an awful lot for anodes and fitting. Trim tab anodes for a pair without pads were £15.92, the bowthruster was about £23.00 and for the mercruiser legs x 2 approx £95.00 so where £290 comes from is anybody's guess.
If you antifouled it last year I don't really think you need to do that again till this time next year. My lift and block off for about 4 weeks was £360 at Shamrock so a lift whilst you change them yourself would be a bit less. Boat I'm buying was also quoted about £300.00 for the yard to supply and fit. Admittedly they need to earn money but it's such an easy job if have a spanner or two.

Have you considered www.sealift2.com over on the island they do a total care package, my example is from last years list, and shows a 40'-45' boat, lift and clean and overnight antifoul paint service plus two standard lift and clean services is £679 plus paint, plus vat, I found them absolutely brilliant, and they will let you do some of the work yourself if you want.

Haven't got shares in the company just found them to be great value for money when compared to some yards/marinas in the solent area.

Terry, who has quoted you that for the drives, the anodes are really easy to fit on the dph leg, no props to take off at all.

Base it on cost of lift in and out say 400.00, 2 tins of antifoul, labour to anti foul, drive anodes approx 100.00 inc fitting.

If you want a quote for the antifouling pm me as I can put you onto my man down there.

And while the anodes are being changed give the drives a check over, oils etc.
