lift pump

second vote for priming lever not working if that's your problem. happened to me and I got really frustrated. gave up and called in the engineer. he advised me what was wrong, quick tug on the belt and twist of the pulleys and the lift pump worked again.....luckily he only charged me half an hour and I think had he not been a boat yard employee he would not even have done that!

Third vote for that. Its such an easy thing to overlook for those who are just starting on servicing/maintaining their own engines. As a unit, lift pumps are a pretty reliable and simple component. If they are kept free of gunge (check the gauze filter) and the diaphragm is not perforated they normally give years of trouble free use....
