I probably need to dump the boat somewhere fairly soon for a few months and was thinking Bruce's in Faro, so for you locals down there...

OK living aboard for a bit on the hard?
OK to catch upon maintenance there?
Any better ideas?

Wrong side of Biscay at the moment so might not make it all the way, any similar options up the Atlantic coast? Pavoa De Varzim maybe? With the same questions.

Thanks in advance for any info. Hopefully see you down there.

PM GrahamM376.

He has been using Bruce's for yonks and will give pukka advice.

I did a recce at Povoa a couple of years ago. On the hard - safe, cheap but bleak in the winter. I met a local and told him of my plans to spend a winter there. He looked at me as if I had escaped from an institution.

OK to dump the boat for a few months though, I suppose.

Cool, thanks, that's what I thought but best to check.
What about the west coast if I run out of time, not even across biscay yet - pavoa de varzim ?

Ta

Depends on whether you want to lift out or not. Leixoes marina (Porto) is very cheap in the water, cost us IIRC €125 for a month (11.5m) a couple of summers ago, Ryanair operate from airport 1/2 hr away. Povoa I think you have to lift out in winter but I'm told cheap. Lisbon has facilities in or out of the water and near airport. Don't push your luck on the west coast, it can be nice and calm with fog or, sometimes heavy swell with many ports closed for days on end.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I had set on getting lifted out but leaving it in the water would be an option, I'll be back at end of August so would give time to get round St Vincent before it starts to get too feisty. Cheers
