Hello All

I need to lift out my little boat (26') to attend to a wobbly prop .
I have been told it will be about £355 plus storage for the craning etc at Kennet & Thames, seems a bit steep? Anybody got any advice or costings, or is that the going price?

Seems a bit steep although not unusual from the main marinas, its £50 per metre at Benson for instance, try Better Boating and Scours Lane.

How much !!!

"£50 per metre " Blimey knew it were expensive up there.....but crikey.
Down here its £2.00 per ft each way and about £20 pounds a week on the hard, special discounts for actual proper folding money.

Yes, was going to sugest Racecourse Marina, they lifted mine out last year for about that sort of money. Lifted it, kept it on the cradle for around 3 or 4 hours whilst I had some work done to the outdrive then put it back in.

Do you have an outdrive or shaft ? If its outdrive its not too bad to change the prop from a tender.

What about 4-all Marine at Laleham.
They have a trolley arrangement on a winch, so low technology; hopefully low cost...

Its a shaft and I guess I need to take it off and get it refurbished. Lots of vibration after hitting somthing solid!
Looks like Better Boating is going to be favourite.
Thanks for all your help once again.

Reading Marine charged me £145 or £165 for lift out and hold whilst they changed a gaitor on the old Birchwood

Lift out

Can you not take it to tidal Thames and dry out to inspect problem. P M me ,can arrange long
time dry in Putney. Dry dock will be available soon, cheaper than lift out.

Might be worth giving the Environment Agency a ring at Reading. They recently drew attention to their crane out facility at Caversham.

The EA crane is the T&K one so presumably that is their quote.

Always amazes me the variation in pricing, if I want my car lifted up to look at a problem the garage usualy does it for free, ok boat a bit heavier, bigger risk, more skilled lift etc.. but it only takes half an hour and not much leccy or fuel used, so why the big price?

Sounds like the Mudway is the place to go.

You are doing a great job for them Tone, I hope they are paying you....

(I got a quote from EA/T&K 3 months back and it was more expensive than Harleyford for my 37 footer - can dig the emails out of anyone interested)

I can assure you that NO-ONE is paying me at all for anything. In fact, my cashflow is perpetually ebbing as I keep paying everyone else.

At the grand old age of 68 I am convinced that I have clearly spent my life heading for the wrong destination !

Frankly, I wouldn't have a clue what the EA charge but I believe their moorings are significantly cheaper than marinas so I thought it would be worth asking.

I will now return to my slippers and suggest to swmbo that it might be time to think about turning the heating back on....but I know what she will say !

I am in her bad books anyway for telling Darren she will do a pudding for the BBQ without asking her first
