Lift, antifoul, polish and launch - £3k - Ouch??

Quotation from last October for a Centurion 32.

Lifting and lowering by Marine Travel Hoist, including shoring and High Pressure Wash:........................€320

Ground rent including shore services:...... Weekly @ €50
(Note: Minimum charge is €120)

Application of Antifouling per coat (ex paint):..........€90

For the towing of yacht from Msida Marina to MIYY.......€280

Note that these are for a 32 foot boat, i.e. 9.75 metres. I would say that what you were quoted works out at similar rates per metre.

Personally, I have tried most of the others but now I would not take my boat elsewhere; I have now been going there for the past twenty-odd years. I will be booking a slot towards April / May.

They do allow 'crew members' to do work on the boats - unlike some of the other yards. What they object to is ordinary work done by 'outsiders', and that can be done by their employees, eg, electronics, engine fitting, etc, unless it is work of a specialised nature being done by the agent. Whenever I was short of stuff, e.g. Primocon, Antifouling, Varnish, etc, I just go to their store and sign for it; prices are the same as at the 'outside' shops. It is meaningless to compare with prices in the UK or elsewhere. Paint is hazardous cargo and importing it directly would not be easy, unless you have a friend who can get it for you on a boat.

Some people do get around the labour costs by hiring Somali illegal immigrants and declaring that they are crew. The island is crawling with them and they will work for less than €10 daily. There is a saying, however, that if you want to pay peanuts, you need to employ monkeys...

PS. You must have invested much more, over the years, in TLC - just like I did on mine. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Same boat in the UK cost me £7k - ouch!!!

That did include keel fairing and epoxy anti-osmosis treatment though.
