Bought a new canister liferaft, fitted the cradle to the pushpit, and I have a piddling little padlock to fit the hole in the retaining strap..... doesnt seem too secure, even though I'm onboard, so I've got the raft in the saloon, where it's taking up a bunch of space.

It's a bit heavy to keep moving it about, but that seems like the only option. (might be a bit heavy for the thieves, but it only takes one)

What do others do with their canister liferafts to stop them getting nicked in port.

Nick - now you are living aboard, how about a picture of yours?

Keep it (a 4-man canister) in the port cockpit locker . More secure and not on view!

Must be good sized boat to keep a canister liferaft in the locker!

Richard,

I had a 6 man canister on the pushpit of Hana for 4 years. Never occurred to me to lock it. I really do think they are too heavy for thieves.

I was also wondering is there really a market for stolen rafts?

As rb-stretch says they're heavy and not the easiest of things to carry...

My greatest worry of having it locked up is that you forget to unlock it before putting to sea and end up needing it in a hurry.
