Gave up looking around South Wales and took mine back to the company that had serviced it previously. Safe2shore in Poole, who charged me £227 for an 8 person Zodiac liferaft. £150 for the basic service plus £77 to replace out of date kit.

I've bought stuff from them in the past and at one time they did do liferaft servicing there. But now they send it away

I rang them up and was told that it would have to be sent down to the south coast becuase they were no longer certified to service liferafts. By the time I'd driven to Milford and then paid for carriage it was cheaper to take it down to the south coast myself. Well to be honest, my son lives in Hampshire and is working on the Liverpool to Belfast ferry, so he took it down and brough it back from our home in the Midlands on his way to and from Liverpool.

Force 4 on Penarth Rd will organise it for you inc. transport - I think they use Ocean Safety in Southampton? Give them a call.

Also Wigmore Wright on Penarth Marina but they all send them away and it can take some time. It was not too satisfactory in my case as the message came back that mine was unsalvageable despite being serviced less than four years earlier [silghtly out of date] I had no option but to take their word for it and buy a new liferaft. Of course I am not implying any misdeeds and you should not infer the same. However, it was an issue not being able to check because of the distances involved. It does highlight a gap in the market in Cardiff and Swansea. When you consider the amount of boats and marinas in the area it begs belief that you can't get a liferaft servcied locally!!

Wherever you get yours serviced, be there when they open it up and inflate it. You don't often, hopefully, see what is inside so it's good to see what is in the cannister or valaise. Also if you are there, you can give them anything to include such as a spare pair of glasses if you wear them. I got mine done at Universal Safety on the Hamble. Very reasonable and worth the trip there.

I contacted Universal Safety, they got back asking me for the serial number of my liferaft - I provided it within 24 hours. It is now 3 weeks later - I have chased them twice for a response and they have yet to reply. VERY POOR SERVICE - TREAT WITH CAUTION

Mine went to West Wales via Wigmore Wright. Top tip, send it now while they are quiet. I sent mine at the end of the season and it took about four months.

Sorry you feel that you have had a "Very poor service" and that others should "Treat us with caution". This turned out to be a communication error in our office and various people had thought the reply had been sent. Entirely our fault so we are very sorry about that. The email has been sent this morning although I am sure you will have sorted something else by now.

That was also my experience with W-W.
My 15 yr old liferaft (+many yrs out of date) service cost (+W-W 10% of course) was reputedly going to cost over £300, so I scrapped it. Opened it up & pulled everything out & there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I should have re-packed it & put it back on the boat.!
