Looking to mount a canister raft on the outside of the pushpit. It seems the only commercially available cradles are a variation on the theme shown below. Seems a bit precarious to me, relying on one metal or webbing strap to retain the raft in position. Anyone seen anything else that's a bit more secure? I'm thinking of something more like a cage but hinged on one side or across the bottom, so it can be swung open to launch the raft. And locked to secure it when the boat is parked.

I have one similar to that mounted on my pushpit (stbd side). Instead of the single central metal strap I have two webbing straps on the bottom hoop (wider than that shown) at each rounded corner. These have strong quick release fastenings. For security in harbour I have a tight-fitting central chain (in a PVC tube) that encircles the liferaft & cradle which is secured with a padlock.

When at sea I remove the chain & for extra security (ie belt & braces) tie a webbing strap (similar to a sail tie) round it in its place. This uses an eye & a quick release knot.

The liferaft can be released very easily (by children if necessary) & be toppled into the water.

I've adapted your pic to show you what I mean.
