Since we've now left Turkey and are moving west along the Med into the "Lands of Jobsworths", I suppose we should get a few things a little more legal on board.

The next reasonable stop will be in Malta so ....

Can anyone suggest a good place in Malta to get our 6 man RFD SeaSava life raft serviced?

And then - all our flares have slipped gently past their use-by date earlier this year - none of the flares for sale at Alanya in Turkey seemed to have more than 12 months left before they became out of date - not a great investment of our limited funds. Again, is there a good place to replace them in Malta?

Now where did we stow the cone for motoring five years ago?

Thanks

Malta has a great range of supply and service resources for boaties. Manoel Island Yacht Yard does Life Raft Certification on site. I had mine done there 4yrs ago. I also bought flares nearby. As there are a number of chandleries in the area of Manoel Island you can shop around.

Warning - Malta is expensive, and many places are standing by to rip you off.... whilst leaving you smiling, until you you realise what happened, by which time it's too late.

I would probably use Manoel Island Yacht Yard for liferaft service/repair aswell. They have an enormous room where all they do is liferafts.

Gauci Bourda in Gzira and Msida will be the most obvious chandlers, but they are also the most expensive, by about 25% for most stuff. D'Agata also very expensive. Boatcare Trading, open your wallet and let your money pour out!!

I was charged €70 for 2 splices by Yacht Services, and also sold a new mainsail, when an adjustment to the furling gear would probably have solved my problem.

Camilleri Marine in Gzira are competitvely priced, and very helpful, as are Sealink, (might have the name wrong, but the shop is small, on the corner of Msida Rd & Saint Georges Rd., Gzira). Ronnies Marine good for batteries. International Marine for Jabsco type stuff.

Got my flares from Sealink... about €100 for a full set in a nice little canvas case.

Nice chandlers opposite the Black Pearl at Msida - White***** cant recall the name. Only bought bits there, but if I had a big purchase, and they had it in stock, I would have given them my money.

If you want more detail ... addresses, directions, etc... just ask.

Cheers

Richard
