There is a difference between servicing and inspection.
Servicing involves using calibrated instruments to thoroughly check all elements of the jacket to ensure that it will do what it has to if used in anger. That the firing mechanism, including valves, are in working order and that there is no weakness in the bladder(!) at all.
Inspection consists of what has been described above in various ways in the thread. Inspection is excellent practice, and for some, they feel that is all they need - but servicing is a very different animal and quite specific.
