That's not as expensive as I had thought.
Bit of a tangent, but would it be possible to buy a life raft (or over any other big ticket item) vat free, if you were on your way out of the country?

They sell a 2 man liferaft! Brilliant! Why don't other companies? What a good idea, considering the 1000's of yachts with limited space, sailed by one or two people. That could seriously tempt me into carrying a liferaft again.

Well I won't ever be carrying a 4-man anyway, but a 2-man is a possibility. Better a bit snug, than nothing, you could say (in the very rare circumstances when yacht crew abandon to rafts).

You can hire one for a year, for the price of a service (roughly), avoiding the capital outlay, and the depreciation of buying and eventually scrapping due to age.

HMRC have stopped the retail scheme where VAT could be reclaimed after filling in customs forms on exit from UK. You may be able to persuade a retailer but they're supposed to dispatch direct out of the country to zero rate. I did manage it with some dive tanks a few years ago so worth a try.

I have a Seago ( but not used it yet!!!) & the case is better than my now defunct ocean one which is all I can say about it , other than spec is higher
I also believe canister is better as there is no chance that I could get mine on deck in an emergency. I chose mine mainly because of spec & because it fits on the cockpit floor under the mainsheet traveller so not really in the way but easily to hand IF needed. Handy to put coffee on when in port

Yes, eye-wateringly expensive for what it is. Also potentially dangerous, I believe, because you have to remove and discard a plastic cap before throwing it overboard, otherwise it won't inflate. That sounds like a recipe for disaster in an emergency.
