I think the large number of engine hours can certainly indicate that the boat has been well used but the naive and ill informed would probably immediately see that as a bad thing.
But its no surprise.
I also run a sportscar which has the same predicament where the top money goes for very low mileage ones but its the very low mileage ones that tend to have more mechanical issues due to lack of use.
In my opinion an engine is still an engine regardless of whether its in a car, boat or bike. You just have to factor in the different issues that affect each due to their environment.
I would much rather own a boat with a good number of engine hours under her belt but shown to have been regularly used and well serviced rather than one that has spent months or years at a time sitting idle.
Trouble is on the sales brochure people still seem to frown when they see large figures under engine hours..
