Life jackets

I want to buy a pair of lifejackets this season, and have seen some in the ybw shop. They are the cheapest that I have seen, and I think they may be suitable for us being Broads based. The lifejacket in question is 'Compass Compact', 16 litres, @£34.95. Any comments?

Is that the ones they had at LBS ,150n types automatic . If so their the ones I got because they are of course up to the euro spec .
I though most of the other ones at the LBS were the same but different badge ,could be wrong but from what I could see.

Got a few of those, they seem ok never used them in anger. As long as they are CE marked which i think they are they should be ok. I wear one every time im on the boat all the time. they seem quiet comfy and dont impeed movement, would pay the little extra for the fully auto ones tho.

That's what I paid at the show ,he looked a bit pi--ed off that I asked for a discount if I got three ,well you got to try. They are automatic and I think the tubes are pretty standard . Mind you on the way back from repairing ships double bottom ,Henry dropped one in the bilge on the yards new tug it went off .Don't know if it should have but then again it does have the hammer valve so !!

its alright another 15 quid to rearm it. Bugger to fold it back up and get it to sit in the cover tho.

think we bought a pair and sent 'em back - most mis-shapen, bulky, uncomfortable things I'd seen. And manual, not auto, so no use if you hit your head going over...

Apologies if wrong on this. Lot we bought from had just gone tits up before Xmas and been rescued. Started trading early Jan.

CE mark

To clarify a couple of posts here:

Any 'lifejacket' or 'buoyancy aid' on sale in the EU has to be CE-marked. They typically come at buoyancy ratings of 50N (buoyancy aid), 100N (now termed lifejacket but still a buoyancy aid in my view) and 150N (lifejacket). Last of these three the only type worth looking at if you expect it to do anything more than just add a bit of buoyancy.

Apologies to whoever. the crap ones swmbo got were Lalizas manuals from Genus Marine On-line.

I say don't comprimise on safety. It would be pretty hard to explain to the bereaved parents / friends that you saved £20 by buying manual non CE registered lifejackets. Whilst the majority of the broads is river cruising - I seem to remeber that Barton broad is quite an expanse of water.
