I was interested to know the answer as I've always assumed it was instant death for the wearer and anyone with 1/4 mile radius. The third return on googling for "wearing a lifejacket under a jacket" was http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?262443-Life-jacket-under-waterproofs-dangerous&. At least the answers are consistent. I would have thought that it made sense to wear on top for a few reasons - one you can get at it for manual inflation. deflation, topping, so the light can be seen and the hood and harness got at amongst but also because if the lifejacket is restricted from expanding then, even if if doesn't cause your chest to implode, it won;t inflate and so can't keep you afloat. Which rather negates the whole point of wearing it in the first place.

I might just try your tecnique next time I go sailing.
One of my favourites is a can of Campbells Chunky Beefand Vegitable soup with Bassamatti rice.
Chunky Chicke Catiorie is pretty good as well.
I'd never thought of using micro wave rice. One of the things I miss about the UK is the wider sellection of good grub in cans.
I also find Liptons side dishes excellent. You just add the water.
