life jacket question

DEfinitely keep the crutch strap - I added straps to all my LJ's after the Ouzo incident, where afterwards the recommendation is to fit them.
What make is the LJ? My wifes had a movable shoulder type 'pad' which was promptly discarded as it was very uncomfortable in the crutch area(for both male and female. As long as it's comfortable and not tight it's never been a problem - AND it will prevent the LJ riding up if you do take an unexpected swim!

No sign of OP's response, or any further participation in any forum. Does any one else smell Troll? The question has already been hinted at, but the smell is getting stronger.

Edit; I see there has been a troll denial statement last night. Does that work like an official Govt denial to prove the case?

Yes

Thank you everyone for the responses. No I have not been "trolling." Just hadn't had time to get on til now. I asked this question because I have never had a jacket with a crotch strap before. It's a type I made by Baltic. I'm also new to sailing as I grew up in kayaks and always used buoyancy aids. I hear everyone and I will not cut the strap off. I see the need for it now.

Also another thing about me is I live in the US. Here crotch straps on adult life jackets are almost unheard of. You can't find them except for children and on inflatables, so I had never seen a foam one with that feature.

Nemo, I would suggest that you try it out in the water - with and without and see the difference. Also you can play with the tension adjustment to see how loose/tight it should be to hold the LJ in position. You may have it too tight at present.
If the water temp is a bit low just now (as it is here in the icy UK), most swimming pools will allow you to do it in a pool environment. :)
