Agreed, but on a 24 footer it is virtually impossible to arrange the safety lines to allow me to do all the necessary work without impeding me (so that I might not clip on) but without being long enough to reach over the side.
So I use safety lines whenever I can, but for certain jobs prefer to wear a self inflater life jacket instead, for the reasons I gave above.
