I have just bought a couple of LED units from LIDL for £10 ea.

The 4 LED unit has an inbuilt transformer from 240AC to 12DC, and the 6 LED unit has the transformer built in to the 13 amp plug.

Both should be relatively easy (ho ! ho !) to adapt for use on baord.

The light output is very good and the area under illumination is almost shadow free because of the spread of the LEDs.

3 year warranty !

I am trying one as an overhead luminaire in the office, to see what it is like driving a desk with LEDlight. 70 watts in the big fluor. tube above at the moment, versus 3watts in the LED strip.

I bought 2 of the 6 led version (the smaller one) this morning; they will replace 2 of my halogen downlighter strips where the 2 * 5W bulbs in each, when they go, are almost £3 each and somewhat fiddly to replace; so swapping 10W consumption for 3.8W can't be bad; and the H bulbs will be spares for elsewhere.
The on/off switch is one of those touch it to turn on and touch it again to turn off. (bit like SWMBO:rolleyes:)

My local Lidl had a fair few available this AM.

For Alan: Actual size is 16" long, plus 1" for the power lead at one end x half" deep x 2" wide. 2 drill holes which are 14.3" apart

Just re-started the kids aquarium and ditched the oven bulb lighting in favour of tiny little led spotlights that I thought you stick on the outside to shine in. To my surprise I find the units are submersible. Great fun for the fishies. Even better if I can turn my ditchcrawler into a mini-superyacht. Can't wait to drift up the creek on unearthly blue water.

Just managed to buy the last two LED lights from Lidl; it has 4 leds and internal transformer.

I removed the transformer and reconnected the wires; works very well, with very bright light; good value for money
