As lots of us need power away from the mains, I was wondering if the Lidl 230v generaator on offer from the 25th is worth the risk? Video here: http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_20130.htm

Who makes the 'Parkside' brand and is it worth taking a punt on?

I'm not thinking of using this to power a laptop, just power tools. Not for use as an onboard genny.

Noisy - 96db, 2.6kw continous output NOT 5.1kw and finally it is petrol not diesel.

As with SIP, Clarke, Draper etc, "Parkside" seem to be just another marketing company not a manufacturer.

Quite nosiy ,heavy and needs continental plugs unless changed for the UK market.

Mind you....Might be ok for sitting in the garage for when those power cuts happen!

Looks similar (though not identical) to my Clarke generator. Like you, I use it for tools in the yard and on the pontoon, not on board. Does the job, I have no complaints with mine, and that seems a good price.

The sub-1Kva 2-strokes you often see won't run a hoover or a heater, both of which are vital for fibreglass work in winter.

Generator

Off the wall question but saw your thread on this generator.

looking for one for the home as we often have power cuts and wanted something to cover a light or two and my fridge freezer! Will this be enough for a typical Side by side fridge freezer kind of unit?

Thanks

I've a small branded Wolf 950 Kv, genny, which I used 5 times then a nut fell off and it's not run since. Is it worth servicing? It barely ran a sander, so now I'm considering a luggable cheap one which will run a sander, or investing a lot more brass into a type of 2Kva suitcase which will at as boat reserve power source. Maybe next christmas? I've been looking at the new yamaha suitcase ones.

Anyway. reply drift. I've used the cheap Parkside (Lidl branded) power tools which seem well made and work fine, but I'm not sold on the genny being a suitable thing, despite being cheap.

I have a 6 year old 850w 2-stroke Lidl generator (the label says it's 1KVA, but it's not). It's reliable and will drive most of my power tools (but not my grinder, router or hot air gun) and a travelling lamp. I've a wee electric kettle (sub 1KW) and it'll boil me enough water for a quick cuppa, too, but not at the same time. It was a godsend when I was out in the back of the yard where there was no power. Now it's relegated to providing occasional light and power if i need it in the garden shed. The one advertised would run my router, grinder and my bandsaw, too.

i am in need of a simple generator for the home - slightly off topic but someone may help.

We often get power cuts and i saw this lidl one - would it be enough to drive my side by side fridge freezer and a light!

Thanks
