Needed to get a cheap drill last weekend to keep on the boat and came across this little thing from Lidl's.. Gave it a go drilling a hole in a cupboard to reroute a Glomex TV cable and was impressed with the torque for such a small drill. Packs away in to a small case which is perfect for us boaty types. Takes at least a 10mm bit, possibly larger but didn;t have time to check before leaving the boat

Interesting.

Could someone wot understands wiggly amps advise if there's any realistic way such a device could be charged from 12V on the boat? Or in the car?

Not alot of torque compared to a top name, but then you cant complain much at the price. Can you get a second battery , I wonder.

The "Top Name" I bought compared unfavourably particularly in respect of tightening the chuck. The Lidl one has a definite spindle lock which appeals.

Maybe it's a lack of Wheatabix but the chuck threatened to rip the skin off my fingers!

Since the charging base looks to take in mains, rather than a low voltage from an adaptor, I'd say an inverter would be the way to go.

I got one along with the right angle widget. Very impressed with both so far, as I have with the parkside sander and dremel type whotsit I've picked up recently.

Come to think of it I should check whether the battery from the grinder fits the drill...

I have bought "budget" cordless drills in the past and although they work well the batteries do not hold the charge for long when stored. So when you really need them they are useless until recharged.

Does the battery on the drill from Lidl hold it's charge in storage?

A lot of the lower priced offerings have NiMH batteries. They don't hold a charge all that well. This current offering from Lidl has a Li-ion battery. It should hold its charge better.
