Lidl - infra red temperature probe

These eventually appeared in my local LIDL yesterday. Bought one. (yes, I know I could source one cheaper elsewhere, but never having experienced one before, the 'no-quibble easy return' factor was attractive.)

Very impressed with the first few readings, which agree within 0.5C with my calibrated thermocouple meter. Then readings become erratic eventually settling at about 6C below actual temperature. Suspected supplied battery might be culprit .... but not so. Problem seems to be temperature related because it takes longer to occur if device has been in cold ambient temperature than it does if it has been at room temperature.

It will of course be going back to LIDL, but wondering if others have observed a similar problem? .... and hence whether worth getting an exchange and hoping for a good one next time.

I did indeed take it back as 'faulty' and accepted a replacement. Behavior is precisely the same. Maybe (all the cheapish ones) behave like this? As long as use is limited to 4 or 5 readings at a time it is excellent ............perhaps I am simply too demanding? (I do like to test things to their limits :o)

This looks great for finding heat loss spots in the cabin, testing heater outlets etc.
I bought it for the boat today and ended up using it to get the oil up to temperature for a pineapple fritter:encouragement:more uses than I thought.

£17.99 inc. a 9v battery. Bargain.

I bought one via Amazon.uk - about half the price, including delivery, works to within +- 2%( self-calibrated). Came all the way from China so delivery was 4 weeks.
Great @ home for checking fridge, oven, radiator temperatures - on the boat for alternator, battery, exhaust temperatures.

I'm a trifle surprised that people expect absolute accuracy from any, but an analogue measuring device.
My Chinese one recommends regular calibration.
Of course, as we no longer have a precision manufacturing industry in the UK, no one haunting this board will be familiar with even a simple QAS.
