Lidl Combination Cutter - any good?

Bloody hell, I wish I had had one of those this morning. I needed to cut an irregular shaped hole in a 1" plywood bulkead and there wasn't room to use a router. I had to do it by chain drilling, sawing and filing.

By the way, how do you find out which stores in your area will have it in stock?

You can select your store on the webpage although that wont tell you for sure that is in stock merely that they should have it on offer.

I cannot find store phone numbers so I guess you have to go to a store that should have it and hope.

A popular item can sell out very quickly. OTOH I have gone back a week later and bought what I could not get on the right day.

It seems you just have get down there on the Thursday. I've signed up for the email newsletter - which gives you the what and when.

I've just picked up a combination cutter. Looks well made - a cross between a router and Dremel. I've got in mind using it to cut groves in teak plywood, fill the grooves with a hard cream-coloured filler, stain, then epoxy and/or varnish over to make smart, new 'teak-and-holly' cabin sole panels.

I might also make new teak name boards...

They do list the shank size and I remember looking at it and being reasonably confident it was a standard router bit size. I would like one myself, but I'm not optimistic of getting to a Lidl soon enough.
 
It is possible that it uses Dremel bits. The Lidl web site does not explicitly mention shaft diameter - certainly nothing about 5mm shafts. The video does talk about a "shaft diameter of 4.8mm" which may be a clumsy way of describing the Dremel 4.8mm cutting bit that comes with the Dremel TRIO - a very similar device to this Lidl tool!
 
The shanks on the cutting bits on mine are a bit less than 5mm. The bit holding the shank will screw down tighter. Maybe it'll fit standard mini router bits - which are 1/8". I've not my micrometer or a 3mm drill bit to check this right now, but it'd be great if they fitted...
 
Despite vowing never to buy cheap tools, I succumbed yesterday. It seems well made and says Germany on it - there's no sign of Made in China. I'm pleasantly surprised. The controls all work easily, the motor is quiet and the casing appears good quality. I've already used the router bit to enlarge a hole in a thick piece of ply and it managed that with ease. I'd never used a router before. The supplied accessories are a bit limited so I will need to buy some more in the future.

According to the user manual, the shanks of the bits are 4.8mm diameter. I assume Dremel ones will fit.

I forgot to say that it has a generously long cable, unlike Black and Decker products which I always find too short.

Got one yesterday. Possibly will use it on Tuesday. Overall I have found their power tools quite good and value for money for DIY use. Whether they would be suitable for 'daily' use is something I'm not sure about. I'm hoping that other bits are available elsewhere so a check of b&q dremel bits needs to be done.
