Licata

My working plan is to winter in Licata, research haul outs whilst there but quite likely go to Tunisia in Spring for a haul and fuel. I'm running fuel down in Italy given the price here, even Malta would be a saving worth having.

RobbieW,
We were thinking of the same. I believe a few boats went from Raggusa to Tunisia last year for the haul out but they may have been Australian.
We still don't know if Ragusa or Licata will be the best to overwinter. Do you know the website address for liveaboards in Ragusa. Apparently they have sent out a message detailing some organised activities for next month,

Email the marina and they'll give you details. Spoke to someone we met in Favignana and subsequently in Licata who gave us a detailed account of activities (having wintered there for several years). Weekly bbq's, bridge nights, ladies coffee mornings, walks to the market, Christmas parties etc, sounds busy! Daily radio call announcing what's on and where.

Appreciate the info, that is quite expensive! Perhaps someone knows if its cheaper at Ragusa?

multihullsailor6, are you anywhere near Grand Harbour, Senglea?
We was in Ragusa in winter 2012 , as far as lift out goes the problem was that you couldn't live on the boat while on the hard , also you couldn't work on the boat out side ie no antifouling it had to be done by the yard ,
The people you met on Favignana where I guess Roy and Mad if you email them they can tell you the cost of a lift out as they where lifted out there .

sailaboutvic, will ask one of our Maltese friends when he moors next to us later today and get back to you :)

Just asked, not good news I'm afraid. Apparently lots of people go over to Sicily for haul out as is considerably cheaper than here in Malta. Our friend has a 60ft racing boat, he was charged just under 1000 euro at Licata recently and, yes, you can stay onboard whilst on the hard.

Hi we now manage to get in touch with two yards , there prices aren't that good it any one interested , 12mts yacht , one Was 650 plus vat and the other 1200 that just lift out and one week on the hard . Needless to say we won't be lifted out there .

Unbelievably.......getting on for twice as much as you`d pay for somewhere snotty on the Solent....

I have a quote from Manoel Island Yacht Yard in Sliema Creek for hauling out my 10m catamaran. It would be undertaken by a mobile crane and cost me €787 plus Vat, this price is for lifting, lowering in / out of the water and high pressure washing of the underwater area.. The weekly ground rent would be € 87 plus VAT. They do allow me to stay on board and work on the boat with one other person.

Here in Malta there is another boatyard in Kalkara but I am not in contact with them.
