Visited the boat show last Saturday.
We drove up from Kent and routing via Blackwall tunnell were directed to car parking at Excel West. There was a long queue to enter the car park because on entry you had to decide how long you were staying and pay for that length of time. In the end we paid £9 for up to 5 hours. I never got a satisfactory explanation of what happened if we were to overstay.
In the event we stayed 7 hours. We drove towards the car park exit barrier expecting another long discussion and further charges. To my surprise the barrier raised automatically as I approached without my even having to put the car park ticket into the machine!
Moral: Don't buy a £15 all day parking ticket.
Finally, what a complicated daft system. Who knows how long they will be staying at a show? Why are the show organisers encouraging punters to leave early?
