I have been following the thread re parking at LIBS. We are set to go this coming Saturday and it seems there is no alternative to the big money charge of around £12-15. As far as I can see from sifting the ExCel sites there is no Park and Ride arrangement, although one was promised. Travel by public transport for the four of us from an overnight stay at a relative's house at Stoke Newington (We are travelling down from Suffolk) works out at close to £20 ( even with my wife's Oyster card). OK, we know London is not the cheapest place in the country but... adding it all up -- show tickets, travel, accommodation, parking -- whichever way you cut it, even taking advantage of special offers or advance booking rates, it still leaves the feeling that everyone is out to dip your wallet. I'll reserve judgment until after Saturday, but I think it will be Southampton and real seaside for me in the future
 
There was a post on MOBO forum that he paid £5 !!!! all day Sat.

Can't remember who, but if you have a nose I'm sure you'll find him, or her! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you follow this thread james has confirmed it has been reduced to 9 pounds for the day. we parked in the car park on sunday and it actually is rather practical as you park directly under the show, and if it's raining your undercover. no need to lug all those new toys miles back to the car. The car park in question for a fiver is on the south side of the show and you enter excel using the bridge.
 
It's all been very confused. Apparently the Park & Ride (£5.00) will open when the main car park is full, so no use turning up before opening time. Parking all day under ExCel is now £9.00 (I think)- see James Jermain's post for latest.
 
The multi story carpark close to the main entrance charges £3 per hour up to a maximum of £15. It's close by but costly. I didn't see any park and ride signs around the complex. If you stay at the Travelodge close to the City Airport you can park in their carpark for £5 for 24 hours.
 
The signs were there - Boat Show Car Park - diagram - CLOSED.

There's tons of room on the site - can't imagine it ever fills up - just plough in and bods at the gate will direct you. Funny how so many boaters worry about money - the two activities are almost mutually exclusive!
 
Yup you can park for free in beckton done that a couple of times (used alnwick road just opposite the school). but you might not have a car there when you return. it's a rather dodgy area. crime is rife they will do anything for a quick fix. picked up a kfc after the show felt rather uneasy in there so made a rather quick exit
 
I arrived at 10 am yesterday and parked under the show hall.

The park and ride was not available.

The parking charge is £12 for 5 to 9 hrs. Its a pay and display which takes credit cards or coins but not notes. Who has £12 in coins???

Not bad value really. You can get a pass out to get back to the car for lunch if you want.
 
on sunday it was posted prices, so it cost me £9 for 5 hours and £12 for the next tranche. the park and ride was shut so i suspect that they were making hay!!

Thanks for all the responses. It does seem a bit confused. Pleased that JJ got the car park charges sorted. I was looking for his reply to the post on this forum, but found it on Scuttlebutt. £9 is rather better than the £12-15 some people were paying. Better late than never to sort it, but suspect a whole lot of people are deeply p****d off having paid top rate
 
I went today by car from the Medway Towns so used Dartford pipe and approached from the East.

I passed the park & ride car park I normally use and it was closed. I was directed to a car park by what must be the East entrance.

It was pay & display but no one could get the machines to take c/cards (of any type) -

I "rummaged" my pockets and the car and found £9 in coins which gave me the 3-5 hr slot - the machines are accepting coins!

The car parks were half empty so going around the show was simple.

However I was a bit pi**ed at paying £9 to park £14 to get in - the show is definitely shrinking - and the food must be Michelin grade judging by the prices.

The person I went with ordered a new engine (Yanmar 3YM20), bought some new dockers and an almanac - I got a free copy of the daily mail - after that we left.

Unless I want any big items I won't be going again because the money I spent on the day would have more than covered any "extra" show discounts.

We went to the Show on Sunday and paid £5 to park all day on the "waste ground" by the roundabout on the approach to the West Entrance, on the same side of the docks as Excel - about a five minute walk to the entrance I suppose - wouldn't have been much fun had it been raining. We were the last car in at 10:45. Certainly quicker than joining the queue for the multi-storey which was tailed back to the roundabout at that time.

We parked there as well. Just as you turn into the excel complex from the west the waste ground is on the right (before all the new buildings) It does fill up early and there is only about 100 places but for a £5 you can not complain!
