OK so I am planning the Summer cruise and it's going to be The Channel Islands and a bit further South to some of the Brittany coast. I am familiar(ish) with the CI but with time being limited as ever I am looking for recommendations for 2 places to stop - somewhere between Lezardrieux and Granville.

Any advice for nice scenic places, nice towns to wander round and some nice places to eat etc.

We can take the ground so that is not an issue and whilst not adverse to time at anchor we do not have a shower on board so end up coming in at some point.

So if I have to pick 2 places on this stretch of coast which two and why ?

First 2 weeks of July is the plan for the whole trip and yes I know it will be busy ;-)

Any advice appreciated

Thanks in advance /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

(I have a Pilot book but just after extra info)

I have just returned from San Malo via the CI's and would certainly reccommend a visit. There are excellent facilities and you can dine in San Malo or San Sevain where there are plenty of Bistro's and bars.
I enjoyed walking in the area, taking pictures of the beautiful area and buildings.
My journey fro St Helier took 8 hrs with 4 hrs against an up coming spring tide and my Journey from San Malo to Guernsey (52 miles) took me 8.5hrs from marina to marina making use of the spring tides.
Regards.

St Malo definitely worth a few days, Les Bas Sablons is the nicest of the 2 marinas IMO. It's a bit of a walk from the city, but surrounded by interesting restaurants and bars etc and some lovely walks.

Def St Malo as per reasons above but do make the effort to go through the lock, it's big but don't be put off. well worth it for the atmosphere inside.

Paimpol - nice fishing port just round the corner from lezardrieux lots of cafe around the marina.

If you are about for Bastile day 14 July. St malo is the best place to be on the coast for celebrations and fireworks.

have a great time were ever you go. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I did a similar trip in 2003 - from Lezardrieux to St.Quai de Portrieux which was nice enough and worth a look. From there to St.Malo which is a must (but the loud ferry announcements were very irritating!) Also it is worth locking into the Rance river , lots of moorings available and very pretty.Dinan is a very interesting medieval town at head of navigation.
Hope this is of use to you.

I'd recommend St Quai as well. Although it looks like just another hugh marina, the facilities are good, the access available at all tides and the village itself surprisingly nice. I'd also agree that St Malo is a must and well worth locking in to the Basin Vauban if you have the time.

I got back on Saturday from a similar trip via Cherbourg and St Peter Port. From St Peter Port we went to Treguier which is a lovely place, good marina, full of historic buildings and lovely small shops up a tidal estuary.
From there it is a day sail round the island and rocks to Lezardrieux although there is a short cut through a channel between the rocks in good weather. We passed by Lezardrieux and went up to Pontrieux which is the most delightful spot. Moored on the bank among the wild flowers. Again a small town full of history. Steam train to Paimpol!Lezardrieux is also interesting in itself with a good marina and centre and in a delightful tidal estuary. We could have stayed a week in each place!

Thanks guys for all your replies - it seems the real problem is one I knew already - I don't have enough time !

St Malo is now definitely on the list - locks don't scare us ever since nearly doing a 360 turn inside Hythe Lock after "crew" dropped a line to answer mobile phone /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Not surprisingly that particular lady is crew no longer. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks again
