Our Lewmar Pro Series 1000 windlass is not working. The motor runs but the gypsy doesn't turn. We've tightened the gypsy but that's made no difference. Can anyone suggest the cause?
PS. I've tried phoning Lewmar but only get a voicemail.

Thanks,
John

Take a look on youtube, there is a very useful series of 3 separate videos showing how to strip down and refurb this windlass.

Thanks that's really usefull.
Friends are using the boat at present & have arranged for an 'engineer' tomorrow.

There is a compound gear in it incorporating a slipping clutch and it runs on a small highly stressed shaft which on mine sheared.
If it's that, you have to buy the complete gear assembly, I think it's about £120, they won't supply the shaft alone.
You should still be able to raise it with the manual tool.

John,

Sorry you couldn't get through yesterday, we're slightly short staffed in the support department due to Summer shutdown / holidays and people away on support missions, but the phone should still have been answered, I apologise as there's no excuse for that!

Don't forget you have a 5 year warranty on this windlass, so if purchased within that time period then raise a claim with your place of purchase.

Thanks for the help. It is the shaft that's sheared- apparently a well known problem with this windlass. The windlass dates from 2006 so is out of warranty.
