We have a Lewmar V2 V3 electric windlass on our boat. The up/down controls on the helm and on the bow spin the motor nice and strongly, but nothing else moves. Safety-clip is removed, winch power and solenoid breaker all set to "on". Am I missing something really obvious? Thanks for sharing any advice on this one...

As earlybird suggests there may well be a winch handle socket on the outside which acts on a clutch so you can drop the anchor under gravity so check that is tight ..... but from memory even if it's loosened off you can still see that the shaft is spinning when the motor turns even though the gypsy might not move if it has a chain on it.

Try turning the gypsy by hand whilst the motor is spinning but be careful. This will test whether some teeth are broken on the drive cog/worm and the shaft needs moving a bit to engage the teeth. If the teeth engage and the windlass works for a few seconds you then know that a strip down and new gear/s are required.
