I have recently had a Lewmar steering pedestal fitted to my boat and the yard has carelessly scratched the base whilst cleaning off excess bedding compound. The scratches are about 5 cm long and through the powder coating. I have been in contact with Lewmar and they seem to have very little information or knowledge regarding what to do. i.e. is there a suitable paint to use to touch up or if left will it blister up badly.

Short of getting the yard to replace the column does anyone know what the best course of action would be to prevent deterioration?

I would probably start by looking at outdrive or outboard motor paint. Getting your colour match is going to be the difficult bit.
