Lewmar mainsheet track

I am changing my mainsheet track from Rutgerson to Lewmar as I can't source the fittings for the original. I have won a mainsheet track and fittings and am in the process of swapping them.

M10 fits snugly but according to the catalogue size 2 is the biggest sliding bolt track they produce(d?).

Size 2 is 30mm wide; mine is 35. Size 2 takes M8 fixing bolts; mine M10.

No problems foreseen at the moment but curious.

Any offers?
 
puzzled because Lewmar produce some serious sized kit for very big boats. is it the sliding bolt bit thats limiting you? my lewmar track has a towed car and I find that really useful - much easier to haul in the main with the sail a bit off the wind and then pull the boom up amidships. in fact I use only the car when racing up until it reaches the end of the track andf only then free off the sheet.

what size boat do you have? best estimate of the breaking strain of an 8mm bolt is 4 tonnes and on a 16:1 mainsheet purchase I might after eating my spinach manage to put a 640kg load on it.

It has all the whistles and bells I yearn for (Torlon balls, towed car and double sheaves).

It was just reading that when the guidance notes I discovered the M8 bolt which spins freely in the sliding bolt cavity. I have no problem using M10;- just curious.

Boat is a Countess 33.

Could I suggest you use the #3 track and drill out your holes to 12mm to fit that?

Your alternative is to fill your 10mm holes and re-drill for M8.

The Lewmar track has greater torsional resistance and, being deeper, less flexing, than the Barton track which I replaced or the Rutgerson which you intend to replace. I would therefore suggest you go for #2, which is the one I used on a boat with a larger main than yours.

I did say that I had the track. As a pauper I am not going to buy another track!

The Rutgerson one used M6 screws. As I have a long boom, there is no torsion on the track;- the pull is at right angles to the base.

However, I think I may have screwed up as I have now introduced a beautiful curve in the track to match the coaming without ascertaining that the car will negotiate it. - I'm about to find out.
