need to replace a handle off i think is a low profile 30 hatch... however i'm looking at the handle and how it's attached to the glass and it's bonded with some sort of glue.... (no hole in the glass so you can bolt the handle to it)....

can you buy new handles for this type of hatch ????? if so how do you get the old broken bonded handle off the glass.... and what do you use to bond the new handle on.

or do you have to buy a new complete hatch...

TIA

You can buy new hatch handles, it sounds like it is the hatch that you find most often in heads. We have 2 of them if its the same model.

Parts can be found at Aquafax but you might be able to get it repaired by calling Lewmar at Havant.

I've never heard of a handle being bonded on to a Lewmar hatch.
The outer and inner parts of the handle are held together with a screw with the perspex sandwiched inbetween.
Is it a case that you've removed the inner part of the handle but the outer part only appears to be bonded because it's been in position for so long? Applying a bit more force should break the join.

The 30 you speak of has the standard locking handles on most Lewmar hatches with the little red locking slide

They are on the Lewmar website http://www.lewmar.com/products.asp?id=8030&lid=25119

We have two Lewmar 20's that have the glued/pressed handles on the inside so the perspex appearing flush on the outside.

yes correct it must be a 20 as it's not got the red locking bit... it's the samller grey handle

Mmmmm so if it's bonded how do you remove it to replace it or do you buy a new hatch... praps a call to lewmar will help or a visit to the stand at the boat show

Hello,
You can replace the handle with a drilled though version, you will have to drill the acrylic, or replace the acrylic that will come with a handle attached.

Ammyj is correct, we can supply a small handle with exterior "mushroom" which screws through the existing acrylic. Otherwise a new acrylic can be supplied complete with new handle.

No need to replace the entire hatch presuming you have a low or medium profile hatch.

This might help I forgot to say use only Fairy liquid to slide the frame back over the rubber seal ;-) Silicone and dry lube can "knob" off.
