Re: Bosun of Forth

Can't agree more. Good to see the range of boats.

I have two to add. One is my own Wivenhoe ONe design....about time we had some dinghys on here.

The second is Pioneer, which although not technically 'mine' I spend so much time helping to run her as a volunteer, it feels like it!

I've added the before and after shots.
Pics of Pioneer by Mervyn Maggs by the way. My photo skills are not that good. Victorious

Ok, seen the youTube vids and am absolutely gobsmacked. I've got to ask. Did you pay anythinbg to anyone for the hulk, and would it have been cheaper to start from scratch?

D'oh on the website question. Edited to remove traces of extreme stupidity.

I've finally worked it out , this is to complicated for us!!

yes it is , it took 9 months of bargining to get it for the right price, the fastest we had sailing her back to liverpool from ullapool was 10kts in a force 6,but the rigging needs tuning so i thing she will go a bit faster. on the journy to liverpool we stop at port st mary iom, and where boarded by the customs and excise who came in there own boat. htis made us local celebs in port st mary( first drink was free in the bar) she weighs in at 29 tons !!. it's very complicated to get pics on this site. does anybody know where i can get a chian and sprocket steering such as edson ?

Some 'Before Pics'

Top one, Ocean Pearl lay here for 18 years......(Penton hook Marina, Staines.
2nd...Stbd side
3rd...Craning a 10 ton boat with a 7 ton crane....In the background is a trailer load of oak (Tree 1 of 5)..
4th... After removing the concrete....I replaced most of those frames....

Mmmmm. Tricky question!
The move from Staines to Bosham was done by someone else (and paid for, including 4 police escorts for the 14'6" beam). It was the last boat left in Combes Boatyard when it closed in'99. It probably would have been chopped/burnt otherwise, and well, it just seemed like a good idea at the time! When it turned up remember liking it alot, and taking care to block it up to remove the 6" of hog.
A lot of work had been done, which was an attraction, but all of it I later removed....if I knew I had to replace most of the frames under the concrete I would not have bothered with it, but once youv'e said your going to do it......
About a third of the original boat is left, so it was a bargain really !
Re size. Its too big, but it matches my ego!!

What a great boat you have there. Its good to see more motor boats as well as the yachts. It would be interesting to hear more about your boat.

Thanks for the compliment. She was built by J.W.Brooke in Lowestoft.
The hull is pitch pine on oak. She's a Dunkirk Little Ship and also 'MS Polotska' in the '60s TV programme 'The Prisoner'. She's brought me great pleasure and empted my pockets of cash!

I really could bore for England about her construction & history....so I wont.
