To guess the weight of paint on the QM2?

AND before anyone asks: No I don't know, but I'm sure there's a man somewhere that can tell us.

1st prize = A pint of Guiness
2nd prize = A day sail with Ken
3rd prize = A day sail with Jimi
4th prize = A day sail with Old Harry
5th prize = A day in the ybw office with Kim
6th prize = A day out and about with JJ on an as yet un-named boat
7th prize = A weeks sailing with ME (Dahh)

2nd to 7th place prizes have yet to be confirmed, but I feel sure that not only will you all "have a go" at this, but also donate some suitable prizes too!

Nothing will be to large or to small, all prizes greatfully received<s>

Reasonable estimate

I found that the QM1 used 70,000 gallons of pint soo... since this is 10% bigger, it should be 77,000 gallons. Mind you, french cars and boats don't have much paint onem, probably piles of teak-faced ply with a quick spray of varnish and not too much antifoul either. So, my guess is 70,000 gallons, a gallon is 10lbs ish, makes 312 tons. Ten big lorry loads. Yep, sounds about right.

There will be 2,500 kilometres of electric cable, 3,000 telephones, 25,000 square metres of carpet, 4,339 steps and the liner will require 250 tonnes of paint.

It just happens that it is sitting on my desk.

Re: wow what a desk!

hm, my 312 tons seems quite close. Much less paint than on QM1 then, those naughty frenchies eh? Or, praps the other 62 tons must be varnish, making 312 tonnes? Do i win?

Must be one hell of a desk to support it, and why is it so far off route?
