Lets Promote the UK Marine industry, Not Slate it!

[ QUOTE ]
as for British boats being best, I am far from this but they do build good boats
but from being top notch I always say they never will be because the product they produce is at a price
design of today British boats FL, SL, SS and Princess is all so Italian looking
I think for a real Brit boat, you have to buy a Broom and a Pearl that looks real English

Bit of a generalisation surely. I wouldn't have thought Spirit Yachts or Pendennis build to a price (at least not a low one /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

As for looking like Italian boats, I always thought Italian boats all looked like Sunseekers, Princesses or Fairlines. Mind you I think a good looking motor boat is something like Botnia or maybe a Fleming or Nelson.

We are booked up for our Powerboat Instructor courses for Febuary and enquiries are still coming in for a range of courses , more so than this time last year , yes the market is not good at the moment but it seems people are still buying boats new and second hand and training is still required , to protect that investment . Perhaps we should have a look after SIBS to see how the Marine Industry has fared.

You see Grumpy:

I can show you a lot Italian boats from the 80s, who already have design solutions which British boats adopted in the mid 90s, not to go on with the rest

Design
- extended flybridge Italian used this in the 70s
- raised saloon flybridge also in the 70s
- integrated bathing platform Riva
- extended bathing platform with tender stowage Fer 1986
- glued windows 1993 Azimut
- big central ship windows Mangusta 1994
- first open over 24 metres Baglietto in 1991
not to mention the accesories part where companies like Opac Mare (started as supplier to Azimut before it used to do car stuff) and Besenzoni, who are used by the major British builders

if you are a sailor which with the yard you mention you are, you can also note that Ferretti started off the raised saloon concept much acclaimed to Oyster in 1970s too
if you want I can also tell you the technical part, but I think all the above are all widely copied, pity Italians are crops when patenting design items....
my comment re build to a price was more about FlPrSSL....

Hi dave glad you guys are doing well, give our regards to Jon and happy new year.

The below extract from your post confused me a bit?

Alister, you must be a mind reader, I am just back from the show and as the lonly way to post is off my phone tex styly, [ new toy] I was going to post almost the exact same thing you did when I got back..

Peaple are worried about what is going to happen in the next year, just as everyone is, but the general feeling at the show was, the peeps there are there to spend money. it was much bussier today, I had to shuffel alone some of the isles.
good luck to all who are there, have a good years guys and gals. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK I'll obviously bow to your superior knowledge - though I can't help thinking of the Monty Python sketch.

Just what have the Romans ever give us? Well all right, the Aqueduct, oh and Sanitation, and the roads, oh and the irrigation, and medicine, errm and education but, apart from that, what did they give us?

I mean, the extended flybridge ...

It's not the same is it really?? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I do hope Monty Python was shown in Italy otherwise this will seem like a very rude post.....
