The Good: Recently, a local chap did some stainless steel fabrication for me. Beautiful work; an artist in steel tubing and worth every penny.

The Bad: I got a recall notice for our engine management unit. Said to Volvo, send me the part and I'll fit it. No, no, no they relied; we'll send a man. The Volvo main dealer man turned up and plugged in the unit but couldn't start the engine. Looking puzzled, he said I've done loads of these. Half an hour, and several phone calls later, there was the happy sound of an engine running. He hadn't seated the unit's connector properly.

The Ugly: The engine needed a service, but as it was still in warranty I though it prudent to get a professional in from the on-site engineering company in our marina. The man arrived, crushed a ventilation duct, damaged the sail-drive leg drain-plug, spilled oil over the cabin sole and charged me £300 for the privilege. I've gone back to doing my own servicing...

I would be having a quiet chat with the boss of the on site engineering company and expect at the very least a replacement ventilation duct.

Suggest that at such prices you expect top quality work.

Without making threats let it be known you indulge in a sailing social media forum.............................

Never know where it might go. Do remember that an ounce of sugar in such situations is far better than a ton of vinegar.

My two penny worth anyway.
