1. Don't try Havengore Bridge over the Maplin sands on a neap tide if you draw 1m (We got as far as the first withy)

2. The bridge keeper and the Potton bridge keeper are fantastic! The South African lady from the bridge even walked along the bank to warn us we wouldn't make it across the sands even when we got off.

3. The tide predictions there are just that. Both bridge keepers agreed with us that the tide was an hour early.

4. When kedging off backwards get free, then get nuetral and take the strain on the anchor line. It will save overiding the line, wrapping it around skeg and prop and having to cut an expensive anchor free (we told the Potton bridge man where it was. He's probably sold it by now!)

5. Prop rope cutters work really, really well.

6. On a seperate subject, the Smack Challenge at West Mersea was great and the prize giving and do on Packing Island in the evening fantastic fun. Two good musical acts, all you can drink, fantastic cheap food and a lift to and from boat for £10 a head. Very friendly locals. Plus lots of, erm, 'enthusiastic' Essex girls attempting drunk pole dancing as the evening wore on.

A great thank you for Dave and Dave for organising it and how about a Forum weekend out next year?

All that and spotted you in Burnham YH yesterday!!

If you hadn't written that here, you could have got a £25 article fee from PBO.:p
