I've sailed a couple of the Moorings Leopards with very different experiences, so don't know where the 47 would fit in.
A 4200 we hired in 2003 was a bit slow compared to the Lagoons that I was more used to, but the interior was fantastic and the best I'd seen, and it sailed predictably and was easy to control.
A 4000 hired in 2006 was a complete dog. The fittings and doors all seemed heavier than I'd seen before and snapped/broke and were at times dangerous. The interior was ok but the cabins very ordinary compared to the 4200. The real problem, though, was that it sailed appallingly, and there didn't seem to be any combination of reefing, traveller or sheets that didn't cause it to round up in a gust. That was even when it was reefed down far enough to slow it to a crawl.
Basically a boat to make you doubt your own sailing abilities. I actually found myself having to use windward engine to keep the boat roughly on course at times. Hopeless and a little embarrassing too.
thank you. i saw that link before and if r&c would not have a lead time of year i would go for the 46 which is a fantastic boat with a higher bridge deck clearance
I took a Lagoon 410 across and ended up a big fan. The accommodation wasn't arranged superbly like the 4200 but the Lagoon was a lot faster than either of the Leopards I've sailed with a huge load carrying capacity, and I liked the Lagoon's handling in different kinds of nasty weather. I suspect the 4200 would have been even more stable and well behaved.
If I was caught out in bad weather in the 4000 I'd save time by diving over the side tied to an anchor.
