Lenco Trim Tabs supplier

Have you considered repairing the actuator?

Thanks for the quick post

Yep I read somewhere on here that someone had stripped them down and refurbished them.
I don't think I have any problems at the moment but last year I had to replace some quickly
Unfortunately, I threw the old ones away last year before I had read the forum refurbished thread.
So this year, I thought I'd get some spares and I could then swap/rotate sets - I have two each side.

I'm also looking for sensible prices for the little plastic brackets that go on the top and bottom.
Bainbridge seem to be the official importer and want silly prices for these quite small brackets.
Prices in the US seem much more reasonable so I wondered if there was a good (sensibly priced) UK importer.

Also looking for the "through hull" gland sets that the wires go through.
EDIT: these are the "stand alone" glands - not the ones integrated into the bracket - they look a bit like standard IP68 electrical glands - and probably are!!

This is my setup

i do some work on a princess V65 in Isreal and everytime the boat is hauled out at least one of the Lenco rams is replaced. i have suggested repalceing them with Hydralic system instead.

electric trim rams immersed in salt water will never last and the cost of the 24V units is robbery.

my view is Lenco system is complete Carp a bennet hyd system woulf be so much better

That makes perfect sense - can anyone suggest an alternative and how it could be retrofitted?

Lenco do a kit to to replace Bennett rams. The kit contains two actuators and is cheaper than buying them induvidually. (I have no idea why anybody would want to replace their Bennetts with Lencos). Its the boats with two actuators per tab that seem to have the most problems. Ive also seen a Princess V65 having the Lencos removed and Bennetts fitted.

It's worth noting that Princess no longer uses Lenco Trim Tabs and switched back to Bennett about five years ago (I think they used Lenco for about 3 - 4 years). One of the primary reasons for switching back to Bennett was the continual failure of the Lenco Dual Actuator (ram) systems. Electric actuators such as Lenco cannot be synchronized precisely and as a result, if one actuator runs slightly faster than the other it will strip the gears in one or both of them.

Dual hydraulic actuators balance themselves automatically since the fluid is delivered to each one via a tee fitting from a common supply line.

Hurricane,

The pocket on the transom of your Princess is molded to accommodate Bennett Actuators and the system could be changed out while still using the same Trim Planes.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will be delighted to help.

Interesting how the cable comes out like that, mine are Lenco and the cable comes out the back on the fixing mount, so as you screw it in you seal it.

If that is normal the glands would be an added item not lenco

Thanks for the reply, Tom
Shame, I've just ordered a spare set of Lencos
I only replaced one set last year - if the ones on the boat are as bad as the others wer last year, I think I'll ditch Lenco and give you a call.
Thanks again

Yep, I think you are correct
All the Lenco parts seem to incorporate the gland inside the top bracket.

Maybe glands like mine would be useful if I were to switch to Bennet.
I can't say I'm that impressed with Lenco anyway.

Since I ve had my boat (5 yrs)I have had 3 new boxes, the black ones that control them, luckily they were replaced on warranty, the last time they went I put a switch on so they do not come on with the key they come on by seperate switch only when I need them, they seem to have lasted a bit more that way.

Alas no. Bennett neatly run the hydraulic fluid thru the hinge so there is no need for the glands. You'd have to glass up the glands if you switched to bennett, but that isn't too bad a job and is well worth doing anyway - I dont really likemglands like that permannently underwater (I realise only the inner one is underwater and doesn't see any head)

With bennett you can have the more basic black ones (which are fine) or these rather nice s/s jobs that I have specced on match2. They have position indicators via LEDs on the dashes, auto up when ignition is off, and with an extra black box will talk their position onto the n2k network. Hopefully Tom can advise which exact model will retrofit into your tab recesses

Why not import yourself? I have an American boat and zero support in the UK so I source everything in the US. They're usually easy to deal with by email and these days are happy to do BACS or PayPal payments. I've sourced everything from mufflers to contact breakers without problems.

Yep - last year's pre-season maintenance I had a few sleepless nights when I realised just how these glands work. So I spent a considerable effort sealing them before we relaunched.
The whole installation is a potential source of seepage.
Nothing leaking on our installation at the moment but as this boat is a "keeper" it may be a good idea to swop out for a more substantial solution.
There isn't time this year so I will just maintain/replace the existing kit.
But maybe next season I'll change to a Bennet system??
I think I will need some advice from Tom though.
Tom?

Mike,

Can you please tell me the model and year Princess you have? We can see what system they are currently using and we can make a recommendation based on that.
