Whilst sorting out the sterndrive on Lorna Jane when on the hard there'll be a couple of other jobs to sort out, the speedo for one but more importantly the duff Starboard Trim tab..
I've not carried out the root cause fault finding steps yet as it's been a little difficult to do so with a beer in one hand and food in the other which is all I've seemingly done for the last 10 days accordingly to my expanding wasteline
That said, one thing I did do is check the operation of the tab on each trip out in case someone had sprinkled fairy dust on it overnight.. in doing so, it didn't fix the tab but did highlight that on pressing the remote button, the engine blower dropped in speed significantly.. so that leads me to one of two conclusions:
1: I've an earthing issue but unlikly as I'd imagine both tabs would be affected.
2: the ram has jammed and the motor's sapping the wiggly amps as it tries to move it.
So, on the assumption it's the latter and being so far from the boat I cannot check, I may purchase a ram prospectively so I can sort it out for sure when the boat's out the water, holding it as a spare if my assumed root cause diagnosis is wrong.
Looking on t'web... I can't find anywhere in the UK that supplies them at anything but a rediculously high price... are there alternatives considering they're a simple electrically driven ram?
thanks Gary
