Lets assume that most people are right handed (before anyone says it I know- My son is left handed) so one hand for the throttle and one for the sterring wheel.

That being the case should the "strongest" hand be on the wheel or throttle ?

I would argue that it should be right hand to levers (just seems right to me). However aren't there right hels with throttle controls to left? Of the boats with LH helms I mentioned several still have throttle control to Right hand !!

I'm really not helping with this am I !!

I thort that for smallish, single-engined boats the wheel is on the stbd side so the weight of the driver helps to counteract the prop torque effect so the boat stays level in flat water conditions.
For the rest, a matter of RoW /visibility/safety, presumably, but not for some I've seen.
